You can make up to 99 chapters but you can not make a chapter menu.3.VERY IMPORTANT ONLY USE +RW if you want to make chapters that will be seen by other recorders. But you can not really do that if you want a continuous movie. Then you could put a little note to what each scene is. If you are like me, even family memories could benefit from chapter titles with thumbnails. You can add chapters but can not make a REAL DVD menu, This unit creates TITLES with thumbnails but each chapter does not get a thumbnail NOR IS SEEN. I did not see any loss of detail and maybe this unit does a little filtering since I saw a tad less flicker in the background.However it is not a 5 star unit. After comparing importing from S-VHS player (to be sure i had the highest VHS transfer) to a PC capture card ) and the VHS to DVD dubbing with the MG9, I would say this unit will capture the best you are going to get without also using video edit clean up software. I bought this to get my VHS memories and instructional tapes onto DVD. I do NOT have an HDMI tv to test the up-scaling.It performs like new, so far, a few weeks in.
